The Light of St. Boniface

It is the light of Saint Boniface that inspired my work and leads us into new eras and nations. It was Saint Boniface who came to what is now Germany from England in the 6th Century as a missionary. He brought many to the Christian faith and was a Bishop. Centuries later the spirit of Saint Boniface still inspires the masses. It was spiritual light of Saint Boniface that was carried forth in glass lanterns attached to canal boats bringing German settlers (some of which where my ancestors) into what is now Ohio. Many of these settlers had very little in financial resources but two hands to work. Ohio and family history will tell that many German settlers would work in foundries and corn fields. Though by night the light of Saint Boniface would be shown again in gas lanterns on kitchen tables where German women would make lace, quilts and even church vestments for their local parishes. Today light comes by electric voltage into my studio but it is still the light of Saint Boniface that illuminates and inspires the artistic work of the hand.
